You are to design, create and install the world’s first climate positive exhibition
Every day 15 million newspapers are printed in the UK. That’s approximately 429 tonnes of paper daily, and almost 4 million trees every year. The crimes of the media however go further than waste, with fake news aplenty, misinforming viewers on the true impacts of the climate crisis. This piece, made from waste-newspapers, takes the visual language of a famous newspaper masthead, and plays on it to highlight some of these ethical and ecological issues. Throughout the making of this piece, we calculated our own carbon footprint and used used an online company to offset this through the planting of new trees. After the exhibition all of the newspapers will be donated to the university, for reuse in the creative departments.
